Don't hire people to fit the job they will do, hire those you want to share your life with.
-
Concealing the truth may make people happier in the short run but it won't make them smarter or more trusting in the long run.
-
Don't design jobs to fit people
a. 3Cs - character, common sense and creativity
b. Most organizations over emphasize capabilities but under emphasize character
c. Build around goals and not tasks
- Focus on "swing and not shot"
- The most important thing is not the outcome but how responsibility was being handled
- Outcomes are tricky to judge, process is not
- To treat people appropriately you must treat them differently
- But you must treat people according to the same set of rules
- Thinking about problems that are difficult to solve may make you anxious but not thinking about them (and therefore not doing anything about them) should make you even more anxious.
