💡 Big quote: Infinite frontier, immutable money & eternal life
</aside>
- The goal of technology is to eliminate scarcity i.e. make something (new or old) cheaper, faster or better.
- The world is transitioning from physical to digital to digital native
- Example: Documents were earlier physical then scanned copies and now native file formats like PDF
- Moving from the world of big data to verifiable data
- Balaji has a belief that Crypto isn’t an asset class; it is a new financial system
- Concept of Transhumanism i.e. humans have evolved due to Technology
- Example: Eyeglasses have made us productive into our old age
- Example: Fire has let us outsource metabolism to focus on growing our brains
- Modern age concerns
- We take responsibility for our own exercise but don't take responsibility for our health. Latter is left to doctor but former is done by self where trainer is at most a helper
- We have outsourced meals from our family which tend to be nutritious to commercial establishments which have a tendency to add fats, sugars & even drugs (eg Coca Cola and Cocaine)
- About Truth
- Two types of Truth - Scientific (i.e. verifiable & reproduceable) versus Political Belief (i.e. established norm by common consensus)
- Problem with Scientific is that many results today are peer reviewed but NOT replicable
- History is re-written by winners hence Truth is distorted
- About Media
- Incentive problem today: If it is enraging, it is engaging. Media is ad driven.
- Need to move from news (for everyone) to a personal dashboard for your reader
- Fighting on Twitter is rewarded but fighting in the real world attracts police attention.
- Focus on dollowers and not followers i.e. engaged and dollar paying followers
- Geopolitics
- The reason for having wars is due to finite frontiers - expanding frontiers provide room for the ambitious to expand without hurting others.
- Technology is the ever expanding frontier - first advances in World war then Mobile and now Crypto / AI
- About Humanity
- Humans are the rate limiters on progress
- Paying customers are usually most tolerant of bugs. They feel invested in the product.
- You are what you read - e.g. Balaji follows the barbell approach of reading old books and then the cutting edge of scientific literature
- Closing thoughts
- We are in the golden age of productivity - our ancestors were forced to do things by hand, we can use computers + enter button + backspace button (which is super powerful)
- Due to our finite life span, we value speed.
