(a) Nudges can be helpful in context where
- Choices are fraught
- Nudgers have expertise
- Nudgee individual preference is not important
(b) Nudge is useful where feedback is absent
- Accelerate feedback loop (i.e. camera shutter sound or phone dialing noise)
(c) "Never underestimate the power of inertia"
- Set as default that choice which is likely to benefit the most
(d) Conformity/herd mentality:
- "Collective conservatism" ie stick to viewpoint of group even in face of new information
- "Pluralistic ignorance" ie stick to belief because of view that others like that belief
(e) "Mere measurement effect"
- Tendency to act in accordance to response to a survey
- Follow up measurement with how and when they plan to prime them to take some action
